Our Stories

A Story of Australian Craft: Robert Gordon

Together with iconic Australian pottery, Robert Gordon, we’ve created a limited-edition range that is proudly designed, sourced and made in Victoria.

From moulding to casting, firing and glazing, each piece passes through 12 pairs of hands at Robert Gordon’s Melbourne factory.

Brought together by a shared love of local design and manufacturing, our collaboration tells a story of Australian craft, honed over decades.

One-of-a-kind designs

The range comprises six unique silhouettes, crafted using clay sourced from the Bendigo region in Victoria. The distinctive colour is achieved by using reclaimed glaze, sourced from leftover samples and factory remnants that would otherwise be thrown away. This makes each piece one-of-a-kind, embracing unique character variations and imperfections that can’t be replicated.

Robert Gordon’s ceramic engineer, Melissa Farell, perfected the reclaimed glaze over a period of three months—testing and trialling various methods to achieve the ideal shade of green.

This was a unique opportunity to work on an innovative approach to glaze making, working with reclaimed materials. We never really knew where this approach would take us, but with time and refinement we’ve achieved an end result that we’re really proud of.

The shape of each piece pays homage to the many artisans that bring a Robert Gordon design to life.

We were so inspired by the number of skilled hands that touched each product, and we really wanted to celebrate that. This is where the lovely pinch detail comes into play. Each piece feels so comfortable and organic in the hand—it's a perfect blend of form and function.

It's been a wonderful process right from the beginning. We set out to create a beautiful and timeless range that was unique in shape and finish, and I think it really reflects the synergy between two iconic Australian brands.

Decades of Australian craft

Robert Gordon is built on three generations of Australian potters, beginning with the family matriarch, June Dyson, in 1945, and continuing today with her grandchildren Hannah, Kate and Bobby.

Originally founded by Robert ‘Andy’ Gordon and Barbara Gordon in the 70s, the family-run pottery is now one of Australia’s largest, employing 50 people across its factory and retail studio in Melbourne. At the heart of the business is a passion for Australian craftsmanship—an ethos that has remained unchanged since Robert Gordon was founded.

We need to keep the traditions ongoing for generations to come. The talent we have in our factory is really unique. It's been developed over a long period of time, and it should be shared and nurtured.
