Summer Holiday Style with Julia Ashwood of The Vista
Seasoned travel writer Julia Ashwood has built a career out of curating the perfect holiday.
The interior stylist and creative spends her days running online travel platform The Vista, while also revamping hotels, restaurants and other idyllic destinations along Australia’s north coast.
Ahead of summer’s arrival, we ask Julia to share a glimpse inside her holiday wardrobe, and the pieces she’s reaching for as the days grow longer.
Can you tell us about this location and why it’s special?
“This is the beach at the end of the street where I grew up. My gorgeous mum and dad still live there in the very same house. It’s a true sanctuary, filled with stones rounded by the sea, shimmering rock pools and pandanus trees. This area holds a lot of sweet childhood memories.”
Can you describe your personal style for us?
“I must say most days I dress quite masculine. I love button-up shirts, pants, jumpsuits and T-shirts, yet other days I do love a casual dress. A lot of my clothes were collected on my travels so you could say my wardrobe is quite eclectic.”
What fabrics are you reaching for in your summer wardrobe?
“I love comfortable, natural fabrics in summer in particular. I’m drawn to the type of pieces you can wear to the beach and then out to dinner—things like linen shirts and knit dresses are great summer staples and always feel carefree and easy.”
What are your plans for the summer ahead?
“Honestly, I’m looking forward to simply celebrating the beauty of every day together with friends and family. Long days by the sea, food and drinks and dancing—lots of dancing!”
